Well, flu season is coming upon us quickly, and most people would love to skip getting sick this season. How? Here are the easiest ways to keep yourself and loved ones with the nastiest of colds this (and every) year. To begin with, the flu is a virus. A viral infection can’t be treated with antibiotics. A virus can only overwhelm your defenses and multiply in your body if your body’s defenses aren’t adequate to start with.

Immuunsysteem

If you’re strong, vital, and have a health immune sysytem, your body will probably be able to stave off many colds, flus, and germs. The issue comes when you’re stressed, eating poorly, not taking a good multivitamin, or have been recently ill. The traditional holiday season, with its own stress, gift buying, wrapping, travel, visiting, and overeating, is a perfect event for you to fall ill with the flu. Here’s what you can do.

Wat moet ik doen?

  • Take an excellent multivitamin. If you’re not eating in the stellar fashion, odds are you are low on a lot of nutrients. This is merely a fact in the world today. An excellent, quality supplement will give you the immune enhancing and flu fighting nutrients like zinc, vitamin A, selenium, vitamin C, and the B vitamins. Keeping up your defenses and your body healthy is your first line of defense.
  • Do your best to not become stressed. Stress threatens your immunity tremendously. It’s simply not worth it to become sick and stressed. Try to remember what your aim is in the highest regard. Rather than thinking,”Oh no! I’ll be late!” Think”My intention is to arrive and do my best. I will take responsibility and control over what I can and do my best.” If you appear authentically and stay true to your ideals while not getting bogged down in the stress of each event in the moment, you can really do your immune system (and psyche) an agency.
  • Eat well as frequently as you can. Now, all of us know that fudge, pies, yams with marshmallow, and loads of butter and rolls may appear on our plates. They simply tend to do that. But as frequently as possible, eat your veggies. Lots of vegetables of all varieties. Eat whole fruit. If you eat grains, eat mostly whole grains rather than flour products. Don’t overdo dairy products as they are mucus producing and difficult to digest for some people. Drink a lot of water during the day and go easy on the coffee, black tea, and try to avoid sodas altogether. Even diet sodas cause an immune lowering effect for hours after you eat. Sugar inhibits your immune system for hours after you eat it (or drink it) and is an invitation to all sorts of bacterial and viral nasties. So unless you’re seriously interested in inviting them in to stay, do not open that door too often.
  • Exercise daily. Even if you only go for a walk for 20 minutes, then get in exercise daily. Your body needs it. It’s good for the soul. Make it fun by going with a friend or your spouse and talking. Or go alone and enjoy your thoughts. Go at sunset or sunrise for an enhanced experience.
  • Wash your hands. Most people get the flu by shaking hands, touching a doorknob, or picking up a telephone where the virus has been around and then touching their eyes, nose, hair, or mouth. The virus typically enters by the mucous membranes of the mouth or nose, but could enter through any mucous membrane of the human body. During flu season, be certain to stay aware of touching your nose, mouth, or eyes, especially if you recently touched an object that others might have touched. Wash your hands if in doubt.
  • Should you get the flu, visit your naturopath instantly for a faster resolution. Homeopathic remedies, herbs, hydrotherapy, and other remedies often assist your body to more quickly eliminate the virus than over the counter products or doing nothing. Some remedies, if started when you see the first symptoms, can even stop the flu from a complete attack. You might also take home treatments your family could take so as to keep them from contracting the virus.
