The brain can control the initiation of ones immune system has been shown a lot of times in drug-placebo tests. It appears clear that the patient getting a placebo has been duped into believing that his treatment comes from an outside source when he’s the true source of his own treatment. It is to great advantage for someone to take charge of this placebo response: to internalize it so one could have, among other things, a quick-response immune system.

Placebo surgeries, psychosomatic research, and biofeedback studies have demonstrated that the mind may also affect other bodily systems. The only thing required to acquire this fast response is a subconscience comprehension, or the particular knowledge or faith which the healing process begins within ones self. I think most people know people who never seem to get sick. The typical explanation is that they keep a great diet, exercise regularly, and have good genes and a well-tuned immune system.

While these things are important, a lot of individuals have suppressed their immune system with the belief that the physician or the pill is the solution. Because of this, the individual has to wait till they see or feel the physical effects of what ails them. They then wait until these impacts become bothersome or painful, prior to seeking a remedy. It’s more effective to have an internalized, self-triggering, quick-response immune system which may act with no conscious initiation or artificial trigger.

When free to act once an invading microorganism enters ones body, the invader(s) can be put down before they unfold. The question is, “How can one acquire the type of thinking need to acquire a self-triggering immune system?” I feel these self-healers never bought into our culture’s dependence on drugs and physicians as a first-line defense against illness: they may not have moved their religion in their own healing power to a faith in some outside power.

I think that in ancient times, when there were no physicians, the evolution of a quick-response immune system could have been adaptive. As somebody who has had several surgeries, I’m definitely not here to push physicians from the picture. I think that any man that has the correct mental attitude, is connected with his body senses, and can take the fearful messages in the drug companies with a grain of salt will have an ever-ready immune system.

I would guess that those who don’t have enough money for physicians, or those who believe beyond common knowledge when making decisions are those most likely to have the appropriate subconscious belief system. I really do worry that people will misinterpret”appropriate mental attitude” as positive thinking. Positive thinking resides in the conscious mind and can be easily overturned by a subconscious belief system. I believe this is why the placebo effect appears to have limited staying power. A correct mental attitude, on the other hand, must be a subconscious belief system which operates regardless of ones changing, mindful beliefs.
