We’d like to hear “take this product to cure a cold,” but sadly the pharmaceutical industry just is not there yet. However, there are quite a few things you can do to look after yourself and treat the symptoms of your cold with no cold treatment.

What to do?

  • Get rest. Believe it or not, having sufficient sleep and allowing your body to fix from bed is among the best things you can do when a cold strikes.
  • Drink fluids, particularly water and hot fluids. Yes, mother was right when she left you drink chicken soup. Hot fluids may clear nasal passages, relieve a sore throat, and ease a cough.
  • Let nature work. To put it differently, do not sniff your mucus back in, and do allow yourself cough! These are your body’s way of eliminating the cold.
  • Gargle with salt water. If your throat is sore, a fantastic saltwater gargle can alleviate the pain. Warm it up a bit and you might even receive a decongestant effect.
  • Eat a wholesome diet. While the immune system is combating the common cold, it is important to give it the nutrients it requires. Fast food and processed foods don’t provide the minerals and vitamins that fruit, vegetables, and whole grain foods provide.
  • Take vitamins. Remember that vitamin C is particularly effective for strengthening the immune system. Also, selenium, zinc, and vitamin A are great for bringing one back from a cold and keeping colds out after.
  • Take an OTC cold symptom therapy. When you just can’t stand it anymore, consider using a syrup for relieving cold symptoms. Most syrups can help with congestion, fevers, and sore throats, in addition to drying the runny nose. Beware though, these don’t CURE a chilly, just relieve the symptoms.
  • Take an immune boosting supplement. There are many supplements on the market that contain herbal, herbal, and lab-created ingredients which are designed to enhance your immune system.
  • Eliminate stress. This is comparable to the”get remainder” therapy above. Stress weakens your immune system, and will make your chilly last longer. Take a day off or go easy on yourself, or your common cold can last uncommonly long.
  • Exercise. Studies indicate that regular exercise may cause your body to create 50 to 300 percent more immune cells. Don’t overdo it, but exercise can definitely help.
