In regards to getting more energy, flourishing with a chronic illness and overcoming fatigue, I find many people today need a silver bullet. People want only 1 thing that they can do to feel better. In many respects, diet appears to be the simplest, or at least the first one people reach. I did when trying to heal from multiple sclerosis and re-energize.

Приємно це чути.

But health, health and flourishing are more than what we consume. I am pleased to see that more recent books on chronic illness and autoimmune disease are mentioning the use of meditation. As an example, in the book Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis, Dr. George Jelinek commits a complete chapter to meditation as a tool to be integrated into a MS wellness program.

The evidence is overwhelming how successful meditation is in enhancing the lives of those with MS and other chronic condition. A recent study reported in Neurology (2010;75;1141-1149) revealed that medical quality of life, such as incidence of depression, stress and fatigue decreased considerably for those engaging in a structured 8-week program of mindfulness training. Other studies have found that meditation produces lasting effects in the mind (increasing connections) and enhancing proper immune system function.

Meditation is not just for yogis and Buddhist monks. Anyone can do it, anywhere. And it is free. Here’s a simple plan or you could seek out a meditation centre in your town if you would like more guidance. When starting out, it is ideal to find a quiet location. Sit in a chair with your back supported and your feet on the floor, in a cross-legged place, or however else is comfortable.

You may close your eyes or you’ll be able to focus on a static point. Take a few cleansing breaths. Scan your body from head to toe, relaxing as you go. Then observe your breath. In. Out. If thoughts enter your mind area, notice them but do not chase them. Watch them float like a fish in an aquarium. If you’re apt to stick to a thought, thank the idea for coming and tell you’ll get back to it when you are done. If this is the first time meditating, begin with 5 minutes.

Work your way around 20 minutes. If you can not find 20 minutes, then do it for 5 minutes, 4 times per day. This is a practice best done every day. But what do you do while meditating? This is a frequent question. The best advice I’ve received is treat your ideas such as fish in an aquarium. Watch them go by, but do not dive in after them.
